Every WTBD program strives to help individuals access, hear, and connect with marginalized voices and perspectives. Our travel challenges participants to confront systems of power and privilege and their roles within, which is part of our mission to foster a more compassionate, just, and inclusive world.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Why is this important to WTBD?

Core to everything we do, responsible travel pushes students to examine their own biases, values, power, privilege and place in the world. This experience involves stepping into the unknown and confronting the complexities and realities that different individuals and identities around the world face. These topics are often complicated and nuanced and we don’t shy away from grappling with the big questions.

Our aim is to inspire students to engage with diverse perspectives to provide a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. It’s here that we give gratitude to the communities we work with, the staff that build out Dragons programs, and the countless students who have opened themselves up to learn and grow alongside us. To learn more about our approach to Allyship Abroad, how we support a diversity of identities to travel, and our broader DEI initiatives, please visit our website for more information.

Our JEDI Committee

As a certified B-Corp, Dragons is in business to foster a more compassionate, just, and inclusive world. Through this lens, we strive every day to push the edge of global education. Although we’re dedicated to integrating Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles into every part of our work (see more about this work below) we recognize that we’re nowhere near perfect. Dragons humbly employs cross-cultural education as a tool for breaking down barriers and enhancing understanding between people and different communities. Learn more about our values by visiting our website.

Our JEDI Team (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) is responsible for assessing our progress and shortcomings, leveraging resources and insight to achieve goals, and mentoring the organization to always see their work through a JEDI lens. This is not a traditional committee siloed from everyone else; this is a team that is integrated into everything we do and committed to critical reflection, concrete innovation, and accountability.

For us, this work serves as a focal point, guiding our interactions with prospective students, the communities we travel to, and the broader world. We invite you to write to us at any time with feedback, ideas, and insight. Visit our website to learn more about our social and environmental initiatives.
