For his undergraduate degree, Max spent several years studying Thai, Lao, and Chinese while working with Burmese refugees, cataloging infrastructure development projects in Laos, and researching environmental policy in Yunnan, China.
Along the way, Max has practiced Buddhism as a novice monk, competed in several marathons and triathlons, worked as a horse trainer for two independent films, and earned his certification as a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT).
A licensed teacher, Max has taught high school in Thailand and on the Texas-Mexico border. He currently holds a private psychotherapy practice, utilizing ecopsychology and equine-facilitated therapy.
Max has been with Dragons since 2003, and has instructed Dragons’ India Semester, China Semester, Mount Kailas, Indian Himalaya, Identity in Exile, and Laos summer programs.
