Jose Luis Lavilla

Jose is Peruvian and he was born in Cusco city, the capital of the Inka empire. Since he was a child, his mother and his school promoted in him an interest in traveling, and learning about the importance of nature and the reality of live for populations outside the city.

He studied tourism in the city of Cusco and had the opportunity to start working at a very young age as an assistant guide on trekking in the mountains of his region. Little by little he became involved in what would later become his passion for outdoors activities.

Nature and mountains took him through different scenarios for many years, from the cloud forest of Machupicchu, through the amazon rain forest close to Brazil, the high mountains in the sacred valley and the Patagonia in the southern part of Chile. Places that allowed him to specialize in the interpretation of different ecosystems, history, bird watching, flora and fauna.

In the last years Jose has worked designing new tourist products in Cusco region, as well as training new generation of guides for Perú. Currently he has his own tourism company and has been promoting the active participation of women guides in outdoor activities (something that is still not common in Peru).

Jose has a lot of energy and enjoys his days off and vacations outdoors, whether running or climbing in the mountains or camping and cooking in front of a campfire, almost always accompanied by his daughter.
