Cate Brown

Middle East & India Instructor

B.A. In Political Science, minor in Environmental Studies and Economics, Middlebury College.

A former Dragons student herself, Cate has been looking for a way to reconnect with the Dragons community since her adventures in Peru in 2007. Initially struck by the amount of plastic debris in the Urubamba River at the base of Machu Picchu, Cate has since dedicated her academic career to researching sustainable political and environmental development, with a particular focus in water management. Eager to step beyond the library stacks, Cate left Vermont for a semester at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies in southern Israel in 2011. Studying alongside Israelis, Palestinians and Jordanians, the group used regional environmental challenges as a medium for conflict resolution. Captivated by the pressures endemic to water-stressed societies, Cate spent the semester conducting field research on water scarcity in the Jordan River Basin and was recently published in Revolve Magazine and featured at the World Water Forum in Marseilles, France. Back in the states, Cate competed for both the Middlebury Nordic Ski team and the Middlebury Cross Country team, and has spent the better half of the past decade skittering around on skinny skis, running through fields and drinking a lot of chocolate milk.
