Ben Castle

Latin America Instructor

MSc. Climate Change and Development, Institute of Development Studies, UK

BSc. Environmental Management and Policy, London School of Economics

Ben grew up in sunny South Wales, UK before moving to London to study. He remained in London for a number of years working as a climate change policy adviser for government agencies and think tanks. He has also worked in Washington DC for the Global Environment Fund.

In 2012 he moved to Cochabamba in Bolivia to work as a project manager for an NGO called the Democracy Center. Ben enjoyed immersing himself in Bolivia’s cultural richness and breathtaking scenery, travelling extensively in both the mountains and the tropical lowland areas. In 2013, Ben began working for Dragons. He worked two Andes and Amazon semesters and found the experience so inspiring and rewarding that he decided to change careers and work in education full time. When he is not in South America, he is a geography teacher back in Cardiff, Wales.

In the past Ben has worked as an outdoor educator where he led a wide range of activities including climbing and kayaking. He loves all outdoor activities especially running, mountain biking, trekking, climbing and surfing. As well as knowing Bolivia and Peru well, Ben has traveled extensively in Nepal—where he worked as a teacher for six months in 2002—and in India, Morocco, Mexico and Guatemala.
