Monica Macal

Guatemala & Peru Instructor

Graphic Designer | Community Educator

Monica Macal is a Guatemalan community educator, visual designer, and Taichi instructor with a deep commitment to holistic well-being, cultural preservation, and transformative learning. She studied graphic design with a focus on visual communication and went on to create educational materials for rural and intercultural contexts across Guatemala.

Her path as a freelancer brought her into collaboration with organizations dedicated to community development, food sovereignty, and permaculture. Working closely with indigenous communities that protect the ancestral knowledge of Maya medicine, Monica learned directly from local healers and deepened her respect for traditional plant-based healing and the wisdom rooted in the land.

For over a decade, Monica has taught Taichi and shared mindfulness practices that invite people to slow down and reconnect with themselves and nature. She has facilitated workshops and retreats that blend movement, reflection, and intercultural dialogue. As former manager of Tuqtuquilal, a regenerative project in the Q’eqchi’ region, she supported environmental care and local community work.

Monica is known for her gentle, grounded presence and her gift for holding safe, creative spaces where participants feel seen and inspired. When she is not teaching, she loves to travel, explore hidden corners of Guatemala and around the world, and nurture her connection with ancestral wisdom and the journey within.
