Catherine Pitt

MSc Development Management, Merit, London School of Economics and Political Science
BA Honors French and German, University of Oxford
Originally from the UK, Catherine was born and grew up in the multicultural environment of Luxembourg in the heart of Europe. This fostered a love of other cultures, people, languages and travel from an early age and has influenced many other aspects of her life.
She studied French and German at Oxford University, followed by a Masters in International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Motivated by a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others, she has worked in the humanitarian sector (based in the UK and Senegal) for over 15 years, raising funds and for different projects from education for primary school children in the mountains of Peru, to newborn and child survival health work in Myanmar.
It was in 2012 that a work opportunity with Save the Children first took Catherine to Senegal, where she combined her interest in wellbeing, creating a yoga studio in Dakar as well as a yoga outreach program at a centre for vulnerable women and girls and at a women’s prison. After several years of back and forth, where spiritual enquiry took Catherine to silent meditation retreats, ashrams and yoga training across Asia, in 2018 she settled by the ocean in Yoff village, Dakar where she lives with her 7 year old son, Kabir.
Since then she has continued to pursue her interest in wellbeing and mental health, and in particular the expressive arts as tools for expression, connection and meaning-making, training both as an Expressive Arts Therapy Practitioner and Transformative Coach. Catherine worked on the Dragons Bridge year program in 2019-2020 and on the Senegal summer program 2025. She speaks fluent French, German, and Spanish and is dedicated to improving her Wolof!
