Where We Come From
Going back to 1993, Dragons was started as an alternative to mainstream travel and tourism. Our first programs were sheer rugged exploration–epic, gnarly, remote, and with nearly zero communication home for 6-weeks. From the Mongolian steppe to the Gobi Desert, the Tibetan Plateau to the peaks of Nepal, the aqua seas of Thailand to the karst limestone cliffs of Vietnam, the earliest participants were trailblazers in a different time before the advent of cell phones and internet connections.
It may come as no surprise that this far-flung and “off the map” style of travel wouldn’t exactly fly in today’s hyperconnected digital age. Over the last 30+ years, we’ve continually leveled up as an organization, leading the industry in risk management, innovative programming, responsible travel ethics, caliber of staff, and the intentionality we pour into every travel experience.
Although the wildness of our programs looks a bit different these days, we remain at the vanguard of unfiltered and immersive travel. Despite all that goes into crafting every experience, the core of what we do is simple: we help you slow down and open yourself to new realities, be present and ready to learn, and connect meaningfully with people across the globe.
