Cat Monzón

Cat Monzón, Maya K’iche,’ was born in the Guatemalan highlands. She studied film and has led experiential education trips since 2017 in: Guatemala, Belize, Bolivia and Peru. She has also served as an English <> Spanish interpreter for a decade.
Outside of experiential education she has worked as an assistant, bazaar liaison and youth fellowship coordinator for an Indigenous led non-profit. She also participates in film and tv projects. She likes engaging in conversations about: migration, art and philosophy. Cat has volunteered for almost a decade in two different movements that resonate deep with her passions and values: a women’s film collective and a grassroots organization that advocates for social change by bridging local and international networks to pursue a dignified way of life for Guatemalan migrants and Maya communities.
Her journey also includes a dive into hip-hop culture, where she was an independent rap artist, but overall a student of this sub-culture which made her believe that a better and more just world can be shaped through access to the arts, mental health, community and nature.
In her spare time, you can find her consuming art or creating it, she enjoys reading and writing, photography, jewelry making and film watching.
