Nate has led with experiential education companies since 2005 traversing the Andes, Pyrenees and Himalayas before joining Where There Be Dragons in 2010.
Nate spent high school summers working in various locations in Spain but learned the power of participation in a group-driven gap semester as a teaching intern in Costa Rica after high school. After three months studying Japanese Buddhism with Antioch’s Buddhist Studies in Japan program, living and meditating in monasteries, he set off to realize his purpose of playing a supporting role in others’ educational and gap semester experiences. He taught Spanish at Marianapolis Preparatory High School before leading language-learning and cultural exploration trips abroad.
In 2012 Nate took time to pursue a long-standing and delicious goal of learning about health-supportive and sustainable food as a student in a full-time chef’s program at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts in New York City. His concentration included macrobiotic, raw, Ayurveda, Chinese five element models and other principles. When in the United States he teaches health-supportive cooking classes to adults and to middle school students.
