Matt Chitwood

China Instructor

M.A. International Economics & China Studies, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS)
B.A. International Business, Northwest Nazarene University

Matt has been on an educational adventure across Greater China for almost a decade now. He loves discovering hard-to-access parts of China and making these experiences accessible to others. In addition to visiting some of the most remote villages in China, he has lived for extended periods of time in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Taipei, and his work experience spans the business, education, and non-profit sectors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the US State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship Program. Matt has also enjoyed teaching university-level courses, including “Issues of Contemporary Chinese Society” and “Living and Learning in China”. He is passionate about the integration of theory and personal experience and loves to see students light up when these two come together. He is an avid pianist/accordionist/ukuleleist and can throw a mean frisbee.
