Sara grew up on the icy shores of Lake Superior and is proud to call Duluth, Minnesota her hometown. A love of the outdoors, science, and experiential education eventually led her to her current stomping grounds in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, where she was first introduced to Dragons. Sara brings several years of experiential classroom teaching experience and was most recently a middle school science teacher at the Watershed School, an expeditionary learning school in Boulder. She has a longstanding background in integrating experiential and classroom learning and has worked at the High Mountain Institute, NOLS, Teton Science School, and several other field-based educational programs. Sara has led experiential teacher trainings at conferences and oozes passion for innovative pedagogy. With Dragons Sara has worked on our Himalaya Studies Semester program, North India summer, and custom school programming in Guatemala. She has traveled throughout Latin America and Asia and has accumulated over 100 weeks in the field leading students.
While at Dragons, Sara is also completing her Master’s of Education degree in International Education from Endicott College and a graduate certificate in Learning Design and Technology from Harvard Extension School. Sara is particularly interested in the gap between experiential and distance learning environments and is excited to explore this niche with Dragons developing, maintaining, and strengthening school partnerships. Outside of work and school, Sara is an avid trail runner and rock climber who enjoys frolicking in alpine hot springs and playing the ukulele.
