Nepal Semester Program House: Kathmandu, Nepal
The Kathmandu Program House is located on the north side of the ringroad, up from Chakrapth in a quiet area called Bansbari. It is a large house with enough bedrooms to house 3 instructors and an intern, as well as living quarters for the Sherpa family that are employed by the program. It has a large library, a large upstairs classroom and a smaller downstairs one, an office, a healing/wellness room, a kitchen, common dining area, and a beautiful garden.
Location Highlights
- It is situated just south of Shiva Puri National Park and watershed area. This not only means that there is great hiking nearby, but that there is a steady supply of water, even in the dry season.
- In the event of an emergency, the U.S. Embassy is a ten-minute walk south of the program house and CIWEC clinic is a 20-minute drive south.
- The main road has a gamut of shops selling anything and everything. There are numerous stationary, internet/international phone, hardware and medical shops, fruit and vegetable venders, tailors, motorbike repair shops, clothing shops, dry goods shops, momo and chiyaa pasals, and a fresh curd shop.
- Public transport lines, including buses, mini-vans and safa tempos, are easily accessible from the house (the number 5 line). The main road is the north-south line that runs into the city center and from Chakrapat Chowk (a 5 minute walk down south down the main road) there are lines running east and west around Ring road
