Nepal Semester Program House: Kathmandu, Nepal

The Kathmandu Program House is located on the north side of the ringroad, up from Chakrapth in a quiet area called Bansbari. It is a large house with enough bedrooms to house 3 instructors and an intern, as well as living quarters for the Sherpa family that are employed by the program. It has a large library, a large upstairs classroom and a smaller downstairs one, an office, a healing/wellness room, a kitchen, common dining area, and a beautiful garden.

Location Highlights

  1. It is situated just south of Shiva Puri National Park and watershed area. This not only means that there is great hiking nearby, but that there is a steady supply of water, even in the dry season.
  2. In the event of an emergency, the U.S. Embassy is a ten-minute walk south of the program house and CIWEC clinic is a 20-minute drive south.
  3. The main road has a gamut of shops selling anything and everything. There are numerous stationary, internet/international phone, hardware and medical shops, fruit and vegetable venders, tailors, motorbike repair shops, clothing shops, dry goods shops, momo and chiyaa pasals, and a fresh curd shop.
  4. Public transport lines, including buses, mini-vans and safa tempos, are easily accessible from the house (the number 5 line). The main road is the north-south line that runs into the city center and from Chakrapat Chowk (a 5 minute walk down south down the main road) there are lines running east and west around Ring road
