Sweta Gurung

Sikkim, India Semester & Himalayan Studies Semester Instructor

Sweta Gurung was born in the Kathmandu valley of Nepal. Very much a Kathmanduite, Sweta grew up celebrating Shiva Ratri in February, playing Holi (festival of colors) in March and singing Diwali carols in November. Sweta is among a few Nepali women to have rafted, paraglided, and trekked in her country, and to have traveled in North India on an Enfield motorcycle named Kalu (Blacky). One who follows her own dreams and passions without losing the simple grace of a Nepali woman, Sweta attended Commerce College in Kathmandu, then worked for 2 years with one of the oldest rafting companies in Nepal. Sweta is also a founder/ director of a Nepal based non-profit organization working to create educational opportunities for youth in Nepal. She has led summer, custom and semester programs for Dragons and is a certified Wilderness First Responder.  She speaks Nepali, English, Hindi, a tiny bit of Spanish and loves dancing, long conversations, has a passion for Asian women writers, work of Rabindranath Tagore, and Led Zeppelin.
