Internships:
Internships with Dragons may be paid or unpaid, and are available to applicants who have or have not graduated from college, but possess valuable skills or relevant travel experience. Interns who return to instruct a subsequent program will be awarded the heightened first-year salary amount (see below).

Salary levels for summer staff:
All first-year Dragons instructors who possess strong language skills, in-country experience, wilderness emergency medical training, or other expertise are compensated with an entry-level salary, which is competitive within the industry of experiential education.

First-year instructors will be awarded a heightened salary amount if they:

• Are a Western instructor with language fluency that's pertinent to any Dragons' Asia or Africa programs

• Are a Western instructor with greater than two years of in-country experience

• Possess an M.A. or Ph.D. in relevant field

• Possess a strong cultural background as well as high-level medical training, including EMT or WEMT certification

• Have 5+ years guiding experience

With each year that an instructor returns to work with Dragons, the salary amount increases substantially. Instructors who return to lead more than four programs will eventually reach a capped salary, which is open to additional bonuses only as decided by the Dragons Administration.

Salary levels for semester staff:
First-year semester instructors with a Bachelor's Degree are awarded a competitive entry-level salary.

First-year semester instructors with a Master's Degree are awarded a heightened salary amount, and those with a Doctoral Degree are awarded an even greater salary amount.

In addition, semester instructors are awarded an additional stipend if they:

• Are a Western instructor with more than 3+ years experience living on-site

• Are a return semester instructor

• Commit to a full year's work (fall and spring semester seasons)

As with summer staff, semester instructors who return to work more than four programs will also reach a capped salary, which is open to additional bonuses only as decided by the Dragons Administration.

Benefits for summer and semester staff:
In addition to the above salaries, Dragons may make additional resources available to contribute to an instructor's training, including workshops specific to wilderness medicine, techniques in experiential education, etc.

With the exception of personal care and personal indulgences, Dragons covers all in-country expenses for our instructors, as well as expenses during staff training. Dragons will also cover the cost of flights/transport to and from the location of staff training, as well as any travel that is necessary to instruct a Dragons course.

All instructors are supported by an emergency evacuation provider while instructing a course for Dragons.
