Stewart Motta

China Summer and Semester Instructor

Graduating with a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Colorado College. Stew was first drawn to the 'Middle Kingdom' for a six month language intensive program at Beijing Educational Institute and his life path has been bending toward China ever since. Stew has spent a lot of his time researching Yunnan Province's international watershed development issues, focusing on the Upper Mekong River Basin. After a month long backpacking trip in Alaska, Stew returned to Kunming, Yunnan through a series of research grants and scholarships and has been conducting research and slowly absorbing Mandarin there ever since. When not working for NGO Green Watershed in Kunming, Stew will probably be on a cycling trip 'wheelin' around Asia. After spending a couple of years researching the Mekong River Basin, he is ecstatic to be venturing to the area with Dragons in the "Life Along the Mekong" this fall. Previously, Stew has led "China Comprehensive Survey" as well as youth wilderness training trips and outdoor excursions throughout the U.S., feeling most at home roaming the deserts of the southwest. Stew is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
