Stewart Motta

China Internship Course Director and China Semester Instructor

B.A. East Asian Studies, Colorado College.

Stew's first experience in the 'Middle Kingdom' was a six month language intensive program at the Beijing Educational Institute, and his life path has been bending toward China ever since. Stew has spent much of the past few years researching Yunnan's international watershed development issues, focusing on the Upper Mekong River Basin. Through a series of research grants and scholarships, Stew has built his Mandarin skills and developed an understanding of the complex issues that coalesce when balancing conservation, cultural survival, and the realpolitik of China's energy and resource needs. Stew has worked for the Kunming-based NGO Green Watershed, and is the lead-instructor on Dragons’ pioneering China-based Expeditionary Internship program for gap-year students. In 2009, Stew led both Dragons China Comprehensive summer program and the inaugural Mekong Semester. Stew has extensive experience as a wilderness guide and is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
